Kent set to replace injured Schrötter in Austria
Danny Kent looks set to make another appearance in Moto2 this weekend, standing in for the injured Marcel Schrötter in Austria.
The German injured himself during a training crash in the summer break and the search for an adequate replacement has been on since. Primary targets Julian Simon who himself has already stood in for replacement rides this year isn’t available. Simon cannot ride in a European round as he is busy with his role as spotter for Tito Rabat, he cannot do both roles.
Another option was Ricky Cardus who stood in for Brad Binder whilst the South African sat out due to surgery on his broken arm, and despite KTM bosses freeing Cardus up for a stand in performance if required, the Dynavolt Intact have decided to go with Kent instead.
The 2015 Moto3 World Champion left his Kiefer Racing team early in the season after a disagreement behind the scenes and has since featured in both Moto2 and Moto3 as a replacement rider/wildcard since the third round of the season.
Kent was favoured over Cardus was due to starting the season on the Suter himself whereas Cardus’ recent runnings in Moto2 have been on the KTM bike. There is the added bonus that if Schrötter’s injury ends up keeping him out of a second round, it happens to be Kent’s home Grand Prix at Silverstone later in the month.
Expect an official announcement on the 23-year-old replacing the German to come once doctors rule Schrötter unfit to race in Austria.
