Casey Stoner wildcards?
Rumours are suggesting that two time, and recently retired MotoGP world champion could be wildcarding in 2013 at Phillip Island and Motegi.
The rumours which has come from Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport (the first to break his retirement) suggests that Stoner may be contemplating the idea to wildcard this year in two MotoGP rounds, at Phillip Island (October 20) and at Motegi (October 27) riding a Honda RC213V.
The two rounds that are being suggested would fit in with his V8 commitments as there is no V8 rounds on those weekends in 2013. The rounds selected also are Stoner’s home race at Phillip Island, and Honda’s home round of Motegi.
According to the paper the rumour originated from an important Australian businessman who has interests in the V8 Supercars championship, where Stoner will shortly be debuting in the Dunlop V8 series with Red Bull’s Australia Racing team.
Shuhei Nakamoto also said after Stoner’s retirement that the door was open for a eventual return. “If he ever decides to come back he will find a warm welcome waiting. I told him that’s always on offer,” said Nakamoto.
New Repsol Honda Team Principal Livio Suppo, was also asked about the rumor, and he said, “it would be very nice, but at the moment not to my knowledge. Obviously if Casey wanted to, there would be no problem.”
Stoner has since denied these rumours, but a Stoner denial hasn’t been the most authoritative of sources with both retirement and V8 rumours quickly denied only to be true days later.
