Viñales has enough!
Maverick Viñales has sensationally quit his Moto3 squad because “the team hasn’t complied with the agreement we had.”
Friday morning when Moto3 machines were heading out onto the Sepang International Circuit for the first of their practice sessions there was one notable absentee. 17 year-old, Viñales was with his father having a private meeting with Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna CEO) as to weather they could indeed quit the team, and thus not partake any further part in the 2012 season.
Viñales in interview said that an agreement had been broken with the team, and he had to take action, despite wanting a clean break. His actions are believed to be a result of a lack of support, and lack of performance from the team and his bike in the later half of the season. Which left the team and fans confused as Viñales finds himself second in the world championship with five race wins to his name.
The move has come as even more of a shock as it was only three weeks ago at the Aragon Grand Prix that Maverick announced he had just signed a two year contract extension with the BQR team.
As well as breaking away from the BQR team Viñales has also left his manager Ricard Jové, who incidentally is also the Avintia team manager. It is believed that he has broken with his manager due to him not informing Viñales about other offers prior to him signing with the BQR team. Rumors are that they failed to inform on offers from Ajo Motorsports Red Bull KTM team, and Aspar’s Moto3 outfit.
Hopefully for the sport, and for Viñales, this situation can be resolved soon. Viñales’ ability has been evident for everybody to see this season and I am sure that there will be plenty of offers coming his way in the coming days and weeks.
