Valentino Rossi in action at Monza

In 2013 Valentino Rossi may be going back to the  Yamaha MotoGP squad, but in the off season he has continued with his passion of rallying, and he has won the Monza rally for the third time.

Rossi won not only the total rally, but also the Sunday afternoon show down, with a clean sweep across the board.

As ever behind the wheel of his Ford WRC Spec Fiesta, accompanied by his navigator Carlo Cassina, The Doctor managed to pip 4 time winner and Le Mans 24 hours winner Dindo Capello by just 2.84 seconds.

Between Rossi and Capello they managed to win all nine of the stages run across the asphalt stages of the rally, with Rossi winning 5 stages to 4.

Sunday afternoon was when Valentino Rossi usually comes into his own, and in Monza it was no different. In the Marco Simoncelli Trophy, a knock out tournament, Rossi rose to the occassion.

Beating Dovi in the semi final by just over two seconds, Rossi went on to win, and Dovi ended up finishing as second best MotoGP rider in the event.

2012 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo finished tenth overall in his first outing in the show, finishing just 2 minutes 34 seconds away from Rossi over the hour long event.

Valentino Rossi will be hoping that this is a sign to come in 2013 with Yamaha. Hopefully for Rossi Sunday afternoon’s will once again become a fruitful time of the week.

Rossi and Dovi will next week be going the Marco Simoncelli SuperMoto race which will be attended by a hole host of stars from the twowheel world including Max Biaggi, Loris Capporissi and Mattia Pasini when they come together to raise funds for the Marco Simoncelli Foundation.
